The Potsdam Chamber will have a member mixer on Wed. May 22 starting at 6 pm. The mixer is being hosted by the UPS Store on Outer Market Street next to Save A Lot. Other hightlighted members will be Lindt Chocolate RSVP advisor Angela Ballou, Persone Staffing, Harris Medical, St. Lawrence County Arts Council, and Save A Lot. Someone will also speak about the upcoming Bassmaster Elite St. Lawrence River Showdown event. Come and find out more about these Potsdam Chamber members! Refreshments and door prizes. Open to all.

The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce continues to accept entries in its “Design the Sign” Contest. The contest is open to both professional and amateur designers, art students, or any resident. The chamber is looking for designs for the new “Welcome to Potsdam” signs that are currently located on five of the major roads that enter into Potsdam. The chamber’s Town & Gown/Community Relations committee is working on the support structure aspect, but wants to open the sign design aspect of the project to community members. “We hope to receive some very creative designs that reflect an overall image of Potsdam,” explained Executive Director Marylee Ballou. Entries to the contest must fit the following submission guidelines: be on 8 ½ x 11 inch paper, be four colors or less, must include the words “Welcome to Potsdam”, may or may not include space for a motto. It is important to remember that the design will need to be enlarged at least to the size of the current signs which is four foot by eight foot. Designs must be submitted by June 20. The committee will narrow down submissions to a top three. The final three designs will be displayed at the chamber office during Potsdam Summer Festival, July 11-13, for public review and comment. If a final design is chosen to be used, the designer will receive $100 in Potsdam Chamber Gift Certificates, be given credit as the sign designer, and be invited to participate in a Sign Unveiling Ceremony.
