Featured Business Leader: Maple Run Emporium

Congratulations to this week’s Business Leader Maple Run Emporium! Founder and owner Mary Hilton had a maple farm years ago and people would come from all around to tap her trees and acquire sap. She had always loved the smell and taste of the syrup and knew that it could be used in other, more extravagant ways. In her shop, you will find massive amounts of items into which maple has been incorporated. Hilton claims that this brings out the best in the product. For example, in barbecue sauce the taste is unbeatable. It brings out notes that one would not normally taste in regular barbecue sauce. Hilton says that maple also stimulates creativity in artists and cooks. To those who have never tasted genuine maple product before, she suggests you try a single maple candy because it is the purest form of maple

.

Hilton looks forward to SummerFest the most each year because she can highlight the amazing local art produced each year. Being as passionate about art as she is has led her shop to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing on Market St. The art and cookware in the store is well worth the price. These are items that will last years, generations through generations. It is an investment that you won’t forget!

The best part about the art she sells is that is it all local. Buying a piece from her shop helps support local artists. Also, many of the items are handmade, such as the maple stained glass leaves made by Tina Link from Gouverneur. These will make your Christmas tree, and their beauty is unmatched.

North Country made products are distinct and at Maple Run Emporium you can find some of the best items our region has to offer. Visit this cozy shop on Market St and meet Ms. Hilton!! It will be an experience you can’t forget ??

Featured Business Leader: Cheryl’s Diner

Congratulations to Cheryl’s Diner for being the Business Leader of the Week! Cheryl’s Diner is a locally owned restaurant owned by Cheryl Denny. The diner was established nearly 12 years ago on November 7, 2006 when her sister had come up with the idea to buy the diner. After about a year, Cheryl took over as full-time owner and operator. Cheryl’s offers an energy that is unbeatable to chain-owned diners. Walking in, it is a small space but don’t let that fool you, the portions are enough to feed two (even if you’re just getting eggs and toast)!

When Cheryl was 18, she waitressed to pay for school and helped her father cook at a local diner on the weekends, this is where she first learned the tricks of the trade. However, it was at Nin’s that she perfected her craft. Nin taught her everything she knows and instilled in her the importance of making everything from scratch. All of Cheryl’s dishes are homemade and she wouldn’t have it any other way. When asked what the secret is to having a successful diner, Cheryl emphasized the importance of customer service, customer satisfaction, and community. Everyone who walks in the door is treated as family and if you have a concern about something, Cheryl will personally take care of it. Every person who works there is someone who has been in the restaurant business for 6+ years, which helps the diner run effectively and efficiently. Cheryl said “When you’re in this type of business, you’re a lifer.” This proves her loyalty to her customers and the community. Cheryl’s is here to stay, and in the future she hopes to eventually find the perfect location to move and grow her business. If you’re looking for a bite to eat and a laugh, visit her and all the wonderful staff on 219 State Highway 11B Potsdam, New York.

Ribbon Cutting at Soul Waffle

Chamber of Commerce members, friends and the general public came out for the ribbon cutting celebration for Soul Waffle, Potsdam’s place to go for waffles of every description. The event highlighted dinner and dessert waffles with samples from the menu.

“If we can get it into a waffle iron, chances are we can make a waffle out of it.”
