Studio owner and artistic director Miss Kristen Schmid started dancing in 1992 when she was 5 years old. She attended various dance studios throughout the Rochester area during her early training taking classes in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop and pointe. Kristen began student teaching in 2002 and decided to pursue teaching dance as a career. After graduating from Fairport High School, Kristen attended SUNY Potsdam in the fall of 2004 to further her studies in dance. As a dance major at SUNY Potsdam, she studied modern and ballet as well as composition, dance history, improvisation and dance education. She also participated in many student choreographer concerts both as a dancer and choreographer. Kristen graduated from SUNY Potsdam in 2008 with a bachelors degree in dance. She began teaching at Tap to Toe Studio of Dance in Massena in 2004. During her time teaching at Tap to Toe she has had the tremendous opportunity to attend several dance teacher workshops in NYC such as Dance Teacher Summit and The Pulse to further her training and keep her teaching material up to date. In 2011, Kristen accepted the position as studio manager when Tap to Toe's Potsdam location was opened. In 2015, Kristen traveled to Disney World with Tap to Toe where she performed and had choreography show cased in downtown Disney. Kristen took ownership of Tap to Toe's Potsdam location in 2018 renaming the studio "Potsdam Dance Company". Kristen is a fun, enthusiastic and energetic teacher that is thrilled to be able to share her passion and love for dance with every student. She takes great pride in her work both as a teacher and choreographer as well as business owner.
