The Potsdam Chamber’s Mission: Promoting and advancing the general welfare and prosperity of its membership and the greater Potsdam community.
The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce welcomes visitors to experience the energy, charm, and community spirit that make Potsdam a standout destination in Northern New York. Nestled along the scenic Raquette River, Potsdam offers a unique blend of small-town hospitality, vibrant arts and culture, and a thriving local business community. Lodging options range from family-run motels and short-term rentals like Airbnbs to a beautifully renovated 1860s home, making it easy to stay and explore.
Downtown Potsdam is the heart of it all. Stroll along Market Street to discover a mix of locally owned shops, including great thrift stores and unique boutiques, along with restaurants and cafes offering everything from handcrafted goods and specialty items to diverse dining options. Visitors will find a variety of flavors, from vegan-friendly fare and fresh-made crepes to classic bagel shops, Italian cuisine, and more. Continue to Outer Market Street for even more dining options and standout thrifting finds. Whether you’re looking for a quick coffee, a sit-down meal, or a one-of-a-kind find, you’ll discover it here—along with friendly faces ready to welcome you.
Potsdam is also home to two distinguished institutions, SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson University, which bring a dynamic mix of events, performances, and innovation to the area year-round.
Potsdam’s arts and cultural scene offers something for all ages and interests. Visitors can explore local creativity at SLC Arts & the Creative Spirit Community Arts Center, featuring rotating exhibits and classes, or discover regional history at the Potsdam Public Museum and hands-on learning at the North Country Children’s Museum. The Potsdam Public Library offers a welcoming space to relax and connect. Music and performance are central to the community, with SUNY Potsdam’s renowned Crane School of Music hosting frequent concerts and recitals, including performances in Hosmer Hall. The Community Performance Series brings nationally touring acts to the stage, while the Orchestra of Northern New York delivers high-quality orchestral performances throughout the region. From the popular summer musical production to live music at local venues, there’s always something happening. For a more casual evening, catch a film at Cinema 10 at the historic Roxy Theater or attend an engaging talk through the Clarkson University Science Café.
Outdoor recreation is just steps away, with scenic trails for walking, running, cross-country skiing, and mountain biking available right within the village—and even more to explore just a short drive beyond. The Raquette River is a centerpiece of the community, offering opportunities for paddling, fishing, swimming, and tubing. Visitors can take advantage of multiple municipal boat launches, relax at the beach at Sandstone Park, or access canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards through local recreation rental programs. Year-round recreation opportunities continue at the Pine Street Arena and through the Potsdam Recreation program, which hosts figure skating, open skate sessions, ice hockey leagues, and a variety of youth sports. The community also features six newly completed, lighted outdoor pickleball courts, along with playgrounds and family-friendly spaces throughout the village, including the Ives Park Playscape and Garner Park.
Throughout the year, Potsdam hosts a variety of events that draw visitors from across the region. One of the highlights is Potsdam Summer Fest, taking place July 9–11, a multi-day celebration featuring live music, food vendors, family activities, and entertainment along the waterfront. Seasonal events, community festivals, and Chamber-hosted programs continue to bring people together and showcase the best of what Potsdam has to offer.
