The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Village of Potsdam, is excited to announce the annual Light the Night Parade, taking place on Saturday, December 6, 2025, in downtown Potsdam.
The evening begins with parade line-up at 5:00 p.m., followed by the parade at 6:00 p.m.. After the parade, the community is invited to gather in Ives Park for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6:30 p.m.
The Light the Night Parade is a festive community tradition that brings together families, businesses, and organizations to celebrate the holiday season. Community members are encouraged to enter a float, decorate and light up a truck, or bring a musical routine to share in the holiday spirit.
Parade applications and details are available online at www.potsdamchamber.com. Space is limited, and entries will be accepted until capacity is reached.

Light the Night Parade – Participation Rules
General Participation Rules
- Event is tobacco- and alcohol-free.
- All entries must have a sign or banner identifying the organization.
- This is an evening parade — all entries must be illuminated.
- Entries must remain in continuous forward motion — no stopping.
- Themes, decorations, costumes, and music must relate to the holiday season.
Music & Performance
- Bands and music ensembles are expected to play holiday music.
- Other entries are encouraged to incorporate music, but it is not required.
Supervision & Safety
- Adult chaperones required with children (recommended ratio: 1:10).
- Supervision applies before, during, and after the parade.
- Candy cannot be tossed or thrown from vehicles or floats.
- Candy may only be handed directly to spectators by walking participants.
- No literature, pamphlets, or materials may be handed out along the route.
Vehicle & Float Requirements
- Forward movement only for motorized vehicles.
- Maintain 2-car lengths between entries unless directed otherwise.
- Candles or open flames are prohibited.
- Floats using generators must have fire extinguishers onboard.
- All drivers must have valid driver’s licenses.
- Liability insurance is required for all participants and motorized vehicles.
Conduct & Compliance
- Entries must be family-friendly.
- No obscene, suggestive, or controversial/political messages.
- Parade officials reserve the right to remove any entry that does not comply.
- Participants are responsible for safety around their vehicles and floats.
- Parade officials assume no liability for injuries or damages.
